His “bel canto” has a wonderfully easy flow with brilliant, sweet, high notes, and “tenor sobs”. The colour with which he uses it makes people hold their breath”

Armenian Tenor Liparit Avetisyan in talk after his role debut as Vaudemont in Iolanta, Berlin
A theatre is like a temple for me, a sacred place where I can touch and get closer to the greatness, as we the artists, every evening, after another life lived on stage, leave a piece of our soul there… Therefore, of course, historical scenes always carry some other energy for me. And thank God, there are a lot of them around the world, so there are also a lot of favouritetheatres.
BELOVED ARIAS
Liparit Avetisyan releases his first solo album on Delos: a crowd-pleasing programme of celebrated arias which he has performed in major opera houses. Liparit gives a superb account of iconic roles – in turn passionate, tragic and haunting – ranging from Donizetti’s Una furtiva lagrima to Verdi’s La donna è mobile by way of Puccini’s Che gelida manina and Gounod’s Salut ! demeure chaste et pure. As a homage to Liparit’s home country, this varied program concludes with Sayat-Nova’s folk-inspired Qamancha.
